The program equips students with the in-depth knowledge of the United States’ legal system, and honed business skills that are increasingly important in the working environment, making graduates sought after assets to multinationals the world over.
The Timeframe
The Executive LLM is conducted over a 10-month period with one intake every year in October, and offers two timetable options for candidates, allowing for maximum flexibility.
For those who are working but cannot leave their place of work, the Executive LLM can be done online, with only short periods away from work, leaving their schedules available for both their careers and their studies. This is made possible thanks to the program’s combination of online and short residential periods both in Madrid at IE, and Chicago at Northwestern University. The residential periods take place at the beginning, middle, and end of the course; the first two in Madrid at IE and the last in Chicago at Northwestern University.
Those wishing to sit the BAR attend the first two residential periods in Madrid at IE, and then spend six months in Chicago at Northwestern University.
Structure
In the on-campus portion of the Executive LLM program, participants will meet for three two-week sessions. The Opening Ceremony and first of these two-week sessions will take place in Madrid, on the campus of IE Business School, during October. In March, participants will again gather in Madrid for the second two-week session. Finally, in July, the third two-week session and graduation will be held in Chicago, on the campus of Northwestern University School of Law.
The virtual campus is the fundamental point of reference for the online activities that form a communication platform for group work and for the teacher-led online sessions. Participants have easy access to the comments, opinions, and experiences of professors and fellow students, as well as general information on the program.
In between these on-campus sessions, students will continue their education via on-line coursework, which promotes the creation of a virtual learning community among faculty and students located at great distances from each other, and can expect to spend approximately 15 hours per week on computer-based coursework, including both on-line and off-line tasks; or go to Chicago for six months for presential classes in order to sit the BAR exam.
The Executive LLM joins two world leaders in their fields together to provide a Master of Law degree with true relevance to the legal and business sectors as the two increasingly converge. This unique program provides the participants with unsurpassed legal knowledge as well as nurturing the skills required for success in the international legal and business worlds.
